the Obama administration announced an ambitious revamp of transit
funding rules to, as the Transportation Secretary put it, "take
livability into account," urban planners and rail fans alike were
pleased -- but also uncertain.

If
we’d spent as much federal stimulus money on public transportation as
we spent on highways, we would have created twice as much work and put
a bigger dent in the unemployment rate.

Dallas Morning News: North Texas Tollway Authority seeks state help to build toll roads

The
North Texas Tollway Authority voted unanimously Wednesday to seek help
from the Texas Department of Transportation to build two major toll
roads... The second, and far more substantial, assistance NTTA is
seeking from the state is a promise to lend NTTA $300 million from the
Texas State Infrastructure Bank. That money would be used for Southwest
Parkway should NTTA fail to secure a special federal loan it would seek
first.
