In light of President Trump’s promise to rebuild America’s highways, railways, bridges, airports and pipelines, the Washington Post brought industry experts and policymakers together on March 8, 2017 to examine what is needed to modernize the nation’s transportation and infrastructure. Topics covered included how different approaches will impact job creation, funding options and the resources we need to modernize our country’s infrastructure. BAF Co-Chair and Former U.S. Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood spoke on a panel at the event and emphasized the importance of acting on infrastructure this year before the opportunity passes. On generating revenue to fund infrastructure improvements, he said, “Everything needs to be on the table.”
Other speakers included Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), Rep. Blake Farenthold (R-TX), Jennifer Cohan (Secretary of Transportation, Delaware) and Tony Williams (former Mayor of Washington, DC).
