New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger and Pennsylvania governor Ed Rendell have picked Marcia Hale to head the infrastructure policy advocacy organisation they founded, Building America’s Future.

Hale will serve as the new president of the organisation effective today, according to a statement. She is replacing Kerry O’Hare, who served as its acting executive director after Polly Trottenberg, the former executive director, left Building America’s Future to serve as the assistant secretary of policy at the US Department of Transportation.

O’Hare will now serve as vice president and director of policy.

Hale’s appointment comes as Building America’s Future is preparing to amplify its efforts to build a nationwide coalition of state and local leaders to urge greater investment in US infrastructure. Known as the Bipartisan and National Infrastructure Coalition, the group has about 100 members.

"What I really hope to do is grow the organisation to include more state and local officials," Hale told InfrastructureInvestor.

She will be assisted by Sean O’Shea, who is also joining Building America’s Future in the newly created role of vice president for outreach and development. He was formerly an attorney at law firm Akin Gump Strauss Hauer and Feld, where he counseled clients on transportation and infrastructure policy matters.

Hale is joining Building America’s Future from McKenna, Long and Aldridge, a Washington DC-based law firm, where she served as a managing director in its governmental affairs practice. During the Clinton administration, Hale served as assistant to the president and director of intergovernmental affairs at the White House.
